The variety was obtained by crossing the hybrid form Joannès-Seyve 23-416 with the Pinot Noir variety and the Bronner variety. The plant is characterized by vigorous growth and an upright shoot habit. The leaves are medium-sized, three- or five-lobed, and dark green. The bunches are medium-sized and nearly triangular in shape.

The berries are medium-sized, with a thick skin and jelly-like pulp. Bud burst and flowering occur a week later than in Burgundy group varieties. The variety possesses resistance to downy mildew but is susceptible to powdery mildew and grey mold. Frost resistance is rated as good.

Wines from this variety are characterized by a powerful structure, intense color, pronounced tannins, and a long finish. Upon reaching full maturity, the berry skin can soften rapidly, which requires monitoring of harvest times.
