The variety is autochthonous to the border areas of Spain and Portugal, in particular to the Arribes del Duero region. Microsatellite genetic analysis confirms the identity of PUESTA EN CRUZ with the Rabigato variety.
The variety belongs to early or mid-season ripening groups. The plant is susceptible to downy mildew and Botrytis. In modern cultivation, the grape is grown on trellises using short pruning systems, such as Royat cordon.
