Rabigato is an ancient grape variety that originated from a natural crossing of the Cayetana Blanca variety with an unknown parent. The name of the variety translates from Portuguese as "cat's tail," which is due to the characteristic elongated and narrow shape of the medium-sized bunches.

The plant is distinguished by high endurance to heat and drought, is well adapted to the granitic and schistous soils of the Douro Valley, however, it is susceptible to powdery mildew and Botrytis under high humidity conditions. The variety belongs to the early-mid or mid-late maturity groups.

The berries are small, yellowish-green in color. The wine grape variety is used for the production of wines with high acidity, minerality, and aromas of lemon, lime, and acacia. Rabigato is an important component of white port wines and is also gaining popularity in the creation of single-varietal wines.
