The variety is of French origin from the Gaillac region. The vines are vigorous, and the flower is hermaphroditic. The ripening period is medium to medium-late. The clusters are small, ranging from loose to medium density. The berries are small to medium, round, dark blue in color with a waxy bloom and medium-thickness skin.

The yield of the variety is quite low. The plant is resistant to grey mold, but sensitive to powdery mildew and mite infestations in spring; frost hardiness is low. It is used for the production of intensely colored red wines with notes of dark fruits, spices, and aging potential.
