Variety description

The variety is an indigenous French grape from the Bordeaux region. Young shoots are covered with dense arachnoid pubescence; mature leaves are predominantly five- or seven-lobed with a U-shaped petiolar sinus. Clusters and round berries with black skin are of medium size.

The plant possesses strong growth vigor but is characterized by low fertility with short pruning. The variety ripens in the mid-season and shows susceptibility to oidium. Requires careful training and tying during cultivation.

Saint-Macaire is used as a wine grape variety. Due to the high anthocyanin content in the skin, it is valued in blends for its ability to impart deep color and specific structure to wines, despite a relatively simple flavor profile and high acidity level.
