The variety belongs to the group of Eastern table varieties and is considered one of the oldest representatives of the species. Its origin is linked to North Africa or the Eastern Mediterranean, and the name derives from an Arabic word meaning raisin.

The berries are medium to large in size, oval or round in shape, with thick, firm skin covered in a waxy bloom. When mature, they acquire a yellow color with a golden-straw hue. The flesh is crunchy and has a pronounced muscat aroma.

The variety has a dual-purpose designation, being used as a table grape, as raw material for drying, and for the production of a wide range of wines with notes of apricot, orange, honey, and almond. It is characterized by high adaptability to the hot climatic conditions of the Mediterranean.
