The name of the variety comes from the Bosnian word "ćilibar," which means "amber," and describes the characteristic color of ripe berries. The variety is considered an old domesticated species, widely distributed in Serbia and North Macedonia during the Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian Empires.
The variety belongs to the table category and was traditionally cultivated in home gardens. Due to its origin, the variety possesses genetic traits typical of old Balkan varieties and is often mentioned in scientific research as an object for studying the biodiversity of the region.
In some sources, the name is found as a synonym for the variety Afus-Ali (Regina), although genetic identity remains a subject of debate. In modern conditions, the variety is being displaced from commercial production due to a lack of data on resistance to modern fungal diseases.
