The variety has an unknown origin and likely arose as a result of spontaneous crossing in the Carpathian Basin. The first mention dates back to 1632 under the name "rongyos demjén". Known synonyms for the variety include Dömjén, somgohér, som-bajom and budai gohér.

The variety belongs to an early maturity group. Agrobiologically, it is characterized as resistant to rot and externally similar to the Gohér group of varieties. Historically, wine from this variety is described as mild, however, in modern conditions it is not used in industrial production due to its extremely limited distribution.
