The variety is a descendant of the Hebén variety and has historically been grown in the municipality of Muniesa. The plant is adapted to harsh conditions with a cold, dry climate and strong northern winds at an altitude of approximately 800 meters above sea level. The variety is cultivated on sandy loam and clay soils.
The berries of the variety are black. The wine produced from Derechero is distinguished by an intense cherry hue and aromas of strawberry, raspberry, with notes of caramel and toffee. The profile of the beverage is characterized by balance, good acidity, and high potential. The variety is intended exclusively for winemaking.
