The variety is also known by the names Drnekuša, Darnekuša, Darnekuša mala, Darnekuša vela, Glavanjuša and Troia, and is sometimes mentioned in connection with the Trnjak variety. It is a medium-late ripening grape variety characterized by low resistance to fungal diseases and low temperatures.
Wines made from this variety are distinguished by high alcohol content and a rich dark ruby color. The variety is traditionally cultivated in Croatia and is not related to the international Grenache variety.
