The variety is autochthonous to Portugal and originates from a cross between Cayetana Blanca and Alfrocheiro Preto. The vine is characterized by medium to high vigor, prefers sandy soils and a warm climate, but can be susceptible to downy mildew and gray mold, as well as flower drop in a rainy spring.
The leaves of the variety are medium or large, kidney-shaped, with heavy pubescence on the underside. The bunches are medium or large, dense, and cylindrical in shape. The berries are small or medium, bluish-black in color, with thick skin and juicy, aromatic pulp.
Wines made from this variety possess high concentration and aromatics. In their youth, they are characterized by pronounced tannins, which become softer with aging.
