The variety is a complex interspecific hybrid obtained by crossing Riesling with a hybrid form of Seyve-Villard 12-481 and (Pinot Gris × Chasselas). The vine has medium vigor and vertically growing shoots, and the canes mature well.
The ripening period of the variety is early or early-mid. Bunches are medium-sized, cylindrical in shape; berries are yellow-green, round, and medium-sized. The variety is characterized by high yield and pronounced resistance to downy mildew and powdery mildew.
Wines produced from Johanniter are distinguished by high acidity and fruity notes of apple, citrus, pear, quince, and melon. Due to its qualities, the variety is recognized as promising for ecological and organic viticulture.
