Jarbola (Jarbola Bijela) is an ancient local variety, with references dating back to the 16th century. The variety originates from the Istrian coast of Croatia.
The vine has vigorous growth, and the berries have thin skins, which requires special attention during cultivation. The variety is intended for the production of quality still wines and premium sparkling wines using the bottle secondary fermentation method.
The variety is genetically distinct and differs from the Italian variety Ribolla Gialla, with which it is sometimes erroneously identified in synonym lists.
