Gelber Muskateller (identical to Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains) is an ancient variety known since antiquity. The vine has deeply lobed, medium-sized, five-lobed leaves. The bunches are conical, ranging from loose to compact, and of medium size. The berries are round, greenish-yellow in color, acquiring a golden or amber hue upon full ripening.
The variety is demanding in terms of growing conditions, preferring warm and well-ventilated sites. It possesses low frost hardiness and high sensitivity to fungal diseases, such as powdery mildew and grey mold, and is also prone to berry cracking during precipitation in the ripening period. Due to the finicky nature of the variety and sensitivity during the flowering period, yields are often unstable.
This grape belongs to wine varieties and is used for the production of a wide range of wines — from dry aperitifs to sweet dessert and sparkling drinks. Characteristic features of the wines are a pronounced muscat aroma with floral and spicy notes, as well as fresh acidity.
