Muskateller is not the name of a single variety, but unites a group of grapes with a characteristic muscat aroma. The benchmark representative of the group is considered to be Gelber Muskateller, which is often identified with the Muscat blanc à Petits Grains variety. The variety originates from the Mediterranean and was known as early as ancient times.
Gelber Muskateller belongs to the mid-ripening varieties. The clusters are of medium size, conical in shape, with round, greenish-yellow berries with thin skin. The variety is demanding in terms of growing conditions, has low winter hardiness and high susceptibility to powdery mildew and grey mold, as well as unstable yield due to sensitivity during flowering.
It is a wine grape variety used in winemaking for the production of a wide range of wines: from dry to dessert and sparkling. The wines are distinguished by pronounced aromatics with notes of nutmeg, flowers, citrus, apricot, and honey. The quality of the production depends directly on the degree of grape maturity at harvest.
