The variety is an ancient autochthonous clone of Nebbiolo, known in the region since 1309. The name is associated with the Latin word pruina, indicating the abundant waxy bloom on dark berries during the late harvest period.

The plant belongs to late-maturing wine grape varieties. Cultivation is conducted primarily on steep mountain slopes and terraces, which requires manual labor. The biotype is demanding of growing conditions, similar to the original Nebbiolo variety.

Wines from this grape are characterized by an intense ruby-red color, full body, and potential for long aging. The organoleptic profile features floral notes of violet and rose, as well as spicy and balsamic shades.
