The variety is historic; its place of origin is the Rhine river valley in Germany. The vine is a woody climbing liana characterized by a high ability to adapt to the peculiarities of the terroir.
Wines from this variety in their youth are characterized by aromas of citrus, peach, apricot, and linden blossom. With long aging, characteristic "petrol" notes develop in the bouquet. The variety requires traditional care and protection in the vineyard.
