The variety originates from the Zadar region, Croatia, and is currently represented mainly by individual vines in old vineyards in the area of the city of Nin. The plant belongs to the species Vitis vinifera L. The color of the berries in classifications varies from black or dark to pink or red.
This variety is a folk aboriginal grape and is not the result of modern breeding. Despite the fact that it is included in the national lists of recognized varieties of Croatia, its industrial significance to date is minimal, and detailed agronomic characteristics are poorly studied.
