The variety belongs to the Pelorsien eco-geographical group. The ripening period is characterized as mid-late or very late. The flower is hermaphroditic. The leaf is medium-sized, three-lobed, slightly dissected, with an open vaulted petiolar sinus and moderate bristly pubescence on the underside.
Clusters are small or medium, cylindrical-conical in shape, and compact. Berries are small, elliptical, dark purple, almost black in color. The variety is moderately resistant to downy mildew, susceptible to grey mold and a number of other fungal diseases. There is a single approved clone No. 1153.
Wines from this variety are distinguished by their deep color and spicy flavor-aromatic profile with notes of black pepper, violet, plum, and hints of smoke upon aging.
