Variety description

10 August 2026

The variety is considered autochthonous to northeastern Italy. In the Euganean Hills area, it is historically called Serprino, with the name being protected under the Colli Euganei DOC appellation and restricted to a geographical zone.

The clusters are large, 20–25 cm in length, with an elongated pyramidal shape with wings. There are biotypes Glera tonda with round berries and Glera lunga with elongated ones. The variety is characterized as rustic and vigorous, with harvesting typically carried out from the end of August to the first ten days of September.

The grapes are intended exclusively for the production of white sparkling and semi-sparkling wines. The finished product is distinguished by a light straw color with greenish reflections, balanced acidity, and aromas of green apple, citrus, acacia, and wisteria.
