The variety is autochthonous and originated from a natural cross between the Coccalona Nera variety and an unknown variety. The plant is characterized by high vigor, hermaphrodite flowers, and a mid-late ripening period. The productivity of the variety is high, although it is prone to flower drop.
The leaves are medium-sized, five- or seven-lobed with an open lyre-shaped petiolar sinus. The bunches are medium-sized, pyramidal in shape, and very loose. The berries are round, dark blue, almost black in color, covered with a thick bloom, and the skin is medium-thick or thick.
The grape is used as a wine variety for creating structured red wines with aromas of dark berries and floral notes, and it is also frequently used in blends as a colorant. The variety is considered relatively resistant to fungal diseases.
