The variety is natural, not a selection, and has historically grown on the Cyclades islands. It is known for its ability to adapt to harsh windy conditions and minimal maintenance, although it can be demanding and difficult to manage in cultivation. On some islands, old own-rooted plantings have been preserved.

The wine grape variety is used for the production of dry white wines with medium body and moderate acidity. The aromatic profile of the wines includes notes of citrus, stone fruits, green apples, as well as floral and mineral nuances, conditioned by maritime influence.
