The variety is a traditional Greek wine grape, classified as authorized for wine production. By its nature, it is an ancient local variety, rather than the result of targeted breeding work.
The berries have a dark skin color, which is reflected in the designation of the variety with the letter "N" (noir). The variety belongs to the non-muscat category, and there are hypotheses about its genetic relationship with the Serifiotiko variety.
