The variety is native to Cyprus and is classified as a wine grape variety intended for the production of white wines. Due to the characteristics of its delicate skin, the variety's name is etymologically linked to the concept of 'bursting.' It is sometimes planted together with the Maratheftiko variety to assist the pollination process.
Wines made from this variety are noted for their high acidity and an aromatic profile that includes notes of grapefruit, citrus blossoms, green apple, and white pepper. The vine possesses relative resistance to many grapevine diseases. Currently, the variety is cultivated in limited quantities, primarily in the Paphos and Limassol regions.
