The variety is an autochthon of Galicia and northern Portugal, used exclusively in winemaking. It is characterized by a long ripening cycle and mid-late budding times. The vines have low growth vigor and average fertility.
The clusters are small, of medium density. The berries are small, rounded, dark blue in color with medium-thick skin. The berry flesh is not pigmented; coloring agents are contained in the skin. The variety shows high resistance to drought and gray mold (Botrytis cinerea), but is sensitive to powdery mildew and downy mildew.
Wines from this variety possess structure, high acidity, and aging potential. The aromatic profile is dominated by notes of flowers and dark berries. The variety belongs to the category of traditional historical varieties of the region.
