The variety is a wine grape and was introduced to Germany from the French Burgundy region. Its name translates as "late Burgunder," which indicates a long growing season. The variety is demanding of climatic conditions, preferring a warm climate, as well as chalky and limestone soils.
The grapes are used to produce red wines, as well as rosé and sparkling wines, including white wines of the Blanc de Noirs type. The wines are distinguished by their elegance and balanced taste with notes of red berries, spices, leather, and tobacco. Specific agrotechnical characteristics of disease resistance or vine growth parameters are not documented.
