The variety originates from the Minho region, Portugal, and is genetically identical to the Vinhão variety. The plant's leaf is medium, rounded, five-lobed. Clusters are small or medium, compact. Berries have a bluish-red-black color; the bushes are characterized by moderate or high vigor and a sprawling growth habit.
The variety belongs to a very late ripening period and is characterized by moderate yield. Relatively resistant to drought, downy mildew, and powdery mildew, but sensitive to sunburn.
The grapes possess high sugar content and intense coloring properties of the skin. The produced wines have high acidity and pronounced notes of black and red fruits, including plum, cherry, blackberry, and blackcurrant.
