The variety is the result of a natural cross between Gouais Blanc and Coarnă Albă. The name of the variety comes from a Medieval Greek word meaning "juice," which indicates the high juiciness of the berries. The grape is used as a wine variety for winemaking, but can also be consumed fresh.
Wines made from this variety possess aromas of vanilla, quince, and apricot with medium-low acidity. The plant is characterized by high yield and large berry size. The variety is sensitive to frost and susceptible to downy mildew and powdery mildew, however, it shows resistance to gray mold.
The variety is widespread in Bulgaria, being the second most popular white grape in the country, and is also found in the regions of Thrace and Eastern Macedonia in Greece and other countries of the Balkan region and Eastern Europe.
