The variety was obtained in 1922 by crossing the varieties Saint Laurent and Blaufränkisch. The bush is vigorous with a powerful habit. Leaves are rounded or pentagonal, three- or five-lobed, with medium-density arachnoid-bristly pubescence on the underside.
Bunches are medium-sized, cylindrical or cylindrical-conical in shape, of moderate density. Berries are medium, rounded, dark blue in color with a thick waxy coating. It belongs to the mid-ripening period varieties and requires covering for the winter.
The variety is distinguished by high and stable yield and good disease resistance. It is intended for the production of red wines with a fruity aroma, soft tannins, and balanced acidity.
