Carnation Cuttage

Dianthus caryophyllus L.

The propagation process of carnations, which is critically dependent on the physiological state of the cutting, the level of endogenous auxins, and the maintenance of turgor. The success of rooting is determined by the expression of the DcAUX1 gene and the selection of the shoot type.

In the reference 8 varieties crop Carnation, where this is mentioned in the description.

For the cuttage of carnations (Dianthus caryophyllus L.), mature leaves play a key role as a source of endogenous auxin. The ability to root is directly related to the expression of the DcAUX1 gene, which is responsible for hormone transport. An important condition is the use of lower axillary shoots, as the use of upper shoots often leads to bud development instead of roots, and shoots from the base leads to excessive vegetative growth at the expense of tillering.

Cuttings are extremely sensitive to moisture loss, so any delay between cutting and planting is unacceptable. Cuttings are harvested at a length of 5–12 cm with 2–3 nodes; leaves are shortened to reduce transpiration, and one node must be buried in the substrate. Optimal rooting media are mixtures of peat and perlite or vermiculite and sand.
