For Lachenalia cuttings, entire leaves or leaf segments are used, with proximal parts of the leaf showing higher bulb regeneration efficiency than distal ones. The best time to harvest material is when the inflorescence is already visible within the leaf sheath, whereas during the full flowering period, the ability to form new bulbs decreases.
The regeneration process occurs primarily on the adaxial leaf surface as a result of epidermal cell division. The root system develops both on the leaf fragment itself from parenchymal tissues and directly at the base of the daughter bulbs. With a bulb weight exceeding 1.5 grams, the plant is capable of flowering in the current growing season.
