The alfalfa root weevil (Otiorhynchus ligustici) penetrates the taproot, creating galleries and leading to the wilting of alfalfa.

Seed weevils of the genus Tychius, including T. medicaginis, damage the reproductive organs of the crop by developing inside buds, flowers, and pods. Infestation by seed weevils is often accompanied by the formation of galls, which has a critical impact on the seed productivity of alfalfa.
