During the reproductive phase, the female pest lays an egg inside the flower bud and gnaws the pedicel, which leads to the drying and dropping of the bud, inside which the larva eats the contents and pupates.

Other weevil species, such as Otiorhynchus sulcatus, O. rugosostriatus, and O. ovatus, pose a threat to the root system of strawberries. The larvae of these insects feed on the crop's roots, which triggers severe growth retardation or the total death of the plant.
