Kalanchoe pot plant culture

Commercial Kalanchoe cultivation is based on its properties as a short-day plant. Regulating day length through shading or supplemental lighting allows growers to force or delay flowering, ensuring the supply of blooming specimens at any time of the year. Modern production technology has fully shifted to vegetative propagation via cuttings, which guarantees uniformity of planting material and the preservation of varietal traits, unlike seed-based methods.

The basis of the pot culture is Kalanchoe blossfeldiana, the breeding of which is aimed at developing compact forms with high branching intensity and a variety of flower colors, including double-flowered cultivars. During cultivation, strict adherence to substrate moisture levels is required, as despite the plant's high drought tolerance, waterlogging remains a critical factor that causes damage to the root system.
