White mustard is a highly susceptible species to the clubroot pathogen Plasmodiophora brassicae, which leads to the formation of root galls and the accumulation of infection in the soil.

The causative agent of the disease is the obligate soil-borne pathogen Plasmodiophora brassicae Woronin. White mustard serves as a fully competent host plant, on the roots of which characteristic pathological changes develop in the form of tissue hypertrophy, swellings, and galls, which disrupt the crop's proper nutrient and water supply.

This species is classified as highly susceptible; therefore, its cultivation in infested areas contributes to the active accumulation of resting spores of the pathogen in the soil. White mustard demonstrates sensitivity to many pathogen isolates, including those capable of overcoming the resistance of a number of oilseed rape varieties.

Currently, there are no bred forms of white mustard with described commercial resistance genes to this pathogen. Scientific research in this area is limited to the search for analog genes and quantitative trait loci in the plant genome without practical application in breeding.
