Cultivation
Iris L.
Technology for growing irises in a limited volume of soil to manage flowering, for mobile decoration, and for the adaptation of moisture-loving species. The method requires strict drainage control, frequent rhizome division, and regular fertigation.
In the reference 18 varieties crop Iris, where this is mentioned in the description.
For irises, container cultivation is used as a forcing tool to achieve early flowering under controlled conditions and for mobile landscaping, including the temporary placement of plants in planters or heeling them into the ground. A specific technique is the cultivation of moisture-loving species, such as Japanese irises, in water culture, followed by moving them to a protected location for overwintering.
Agrotechnology in containers requires the use of substrates with a high degree of aeration with the addition of sand or gravel, as irises are extremely sensitive to rhizome rot. In limited volume conditions, the root system quickly becomes root-bound, requiring plant division every 2–3 years to maintain flowering. Compared to open-ground cultivation, container-grown irises require regular fertigation and careful monitoring of substrate temperature.
