Nematodes in Sarepta mustard

Brassica juncea (L.) Czern.

Sarepta mustard is not a highly specialized host for nematodes and is frequently used in agronomy as a phytosanitary crop for controlling soil-borne parasites through biofumigation.

In the reference 9 varieties crop Brown mustard, where this is mentioned in the description.

Sarepta mustard can act as a host plant for the beet cyst nematode Heterodera schachtii; however, it is more commonly used as a trap crop or green manure, which triggers the hatching of larvae from cysts followed by their subsequent mortality. Furthermore, the crop exhibits resistance to the stem nematode Ditylenchus dipsaci, as populations of this pest are typically unable to complete their full reproductive cycle on it.

The interaction of the species with nematodes also includes the potential for infestation by the sting nematode Belonolaimus longicaudatus, although this is not a universal varietal characteristic. Specific resistance genes to nematodes have not been described for this crop, and signs of infestation manifest as general growth retardation and chlorosis, which are typical for the entire Brassicaceae family.
