Chrysanthemum irrigation is based on maintaining substrate moisture at 70–75% of field capacity (FC), strictly avoiding moisture contact with the aerial parts due to the high risk of fungal diseases.

Chrysanthemums have a shallow fibrous root system, which makes them critically dependent on the moisture regime. During the active vegetative growth period in greenhouse conditions, the optimal substrate moisture level is 70–75% of field capacity (FC) or 80–90% of water capacity. The plant is extremely sensitive to both moisture deficit, which causes stem lignification, and waterlogging, which triggers root rot.

Technically, irrigating the crop requires avoiding wetting of the leaves and inflorescences to prevent the development of pathogens; therefore, drip irrigation is preferred. During the cutting rooting phase, brief overhead irrigation is acceptable; however, once the development of aerial biomass begins, irrigation must be carried out strictly at the base of the plant using water with a temperature of at least +20°C, preferably during the morning hours.
