Melon is an extremely heat-loving crop with an optimal development range of +25...+30 °C, although seeds only begin to germinate once soil temperatures exceed +12...+15 °C. The plant is drought-tolerant due to a strong root system, yet it is critically sensitive to high soil acidity, requiring a pH level of 6.5–7.0, and reacts negatively to an excess of chlorine salts.

In varietal forms, female flowers are formed primarily on third-order shoots, which requires pinching the main vine above the 4th leaf.
