Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench
The loss of vertical orientation of sorghum stalks, which hinders mechanized harvesting and reduces yield. Resistance to this trait is a breeding characteristic depending on stalk tissue strength and plant height.

The evaluation of sorghum resistance to lodging is carried out according to the international CMEA classifiers using a 5-point scale for stalk bending intensity. Visual assessment of the percentage of lodged plants in a plot during the full maturity phase is also employed, based on which the variety is assigned a resistance category.
Critical factors for sorghum lodging are excessive crop density, autumn drought, and early frosts. The risk of losing the vertical position of the stalk increases significantly when the crop is left standing past maturity; therefore, breeding for dwarfism and tissue strength is a key method for ensuring harvest efficiency.
