For Italian ryegrass, productivity is expressed in terms of green and dry matter yield, measured in tonnes or centners per hectare. The indicator is calculated as the sum of all seasonal cuts carried out on competitive variety trial plots using analysis of variance.

Under favorable conditions and with intensive cultivation technology, including the application of mineral fertilizers, the crop is capable of providing 3 to 5 cuts per season. Green mass yield in such conditions ranges from 30 to 60 t/ha and higher, with the realization of productivity potential directly dependent on the regrowth capacity of the variety after each cut.
