Sweet cherry vigor

Sweet cherry is characterized by an acrotonic growth habit, manifesting as pronounced apical dominance. High-vigor trees on seedling rootstocks require significant spacing and complicate maintenance, including mechanized harvesting and spraying. Conversely, restricting vigor promotes earlier entry into commercial bearing and improves light distribution within the canopy, preventing a decline in fruit quality and flower bud initiation.
