Cytoplasmic Male Sterility in Rapeseed

A technological method in rapeseed breeding that enables hybrid production by preventing self-pollination in maternal lines. It is based on the Ogura, Polima, and MSL CMS systems, which require the use of fertility restorer lines to obtain a harvest.

When transferring these genes into paternal lines, breeders must account for the linkage of these genes with glucosinolate content, necessitating quality control to ensure high-grade production. The use of CMS systems does not negatively affect crop structure parameters, allowing for the creation of high-yielding heterotic hybrids.
