Melon transportability is an important economically valuable trait that determines the feasibility of commercial marketing of the crop over long distances. In breeding practice, this parameter is assessed descriptively as part of the complex characteristics of a cultivar, classified as high, good, or medium based on the results of field trials.

This trait depends directly on the physico-mechanical properties of the fruit, in particular on the thickness and strength of the rind, as well as the density of the flesh. The degree of maturity at the time of harvest is of particular importance for maintaining fruit integrity during loading and transportation. Genetically determined high transportability is often combined with high storability, which is characteristic of a number of late-ripening cultivars, such as the Gulabi type.
