The key characteristic influencing this trait is the firmness of the fruit flesh: cultivars of the 'Gini' group with a loose structure possess low transportability, whereas cultivars with firm flesh withstand long-distance transportation better.
In variety testing practice, the assessment of transportability is descriptive in nature and is expressed in categories of high, medium, or low capacity for transport. At the same time, skin strength, the nature of pedicel detachment, and fruit cracking resistance are taken into account. In intensive orchards, crop protection technologies are applied directly during the ripening period to preserve these qualities.
