For dwarf forms of this crop, the typical range is from 64.0 to 99.1 cm. This trait is a varietal characteristic, but it varies significantly under the influence of hydrothermal conditions and agronomic factors, such as the level of nitrogen nutrition.

An increase in height, especially when using high doses of nitrogen fertilizers, increases the crop's susceptibility to lodging. In breeding and cultivation, not only the total height is of critical importance, but also stem strength, which is determined by the ratio of internode length to diameter.
