Avena nuda L.
A fungal disease of hulless oat caused by the highly specialized pathogen Blumeria graminis f. sp. avenae. It is characterized by the appearance of a coating on the leaves, leading to chlorophyll loss and reduced plant productivity.

The causative agent of the disease is the specialized fungus Blumeria graminis (DC.) Speer f. sp. avenae. Initial symptoms appear as a white, web-like coating on the sheaths of the lower leaves, which eventually thickens into powdery "pads" and acquires a yellowish-gray or brown hue. As the pathogen develops, cleistothecia—small black dots representing the fruiting bodies of the fungus—form on the coating.
The pathogen population is characterized by high variability, which is confirmed by the use of differential cultivar sets to identify pathotypes using letter codes. To control the disease, breeding methods based on Pm1–Pm11 resistance genes, linked with other immunity indicators, are employed. The susceptibility level of samples is assessed according to the Maips-Dietz scale, where 0 corresponds to an immune state and 4 to highly susceptible.
