Naked oats are characterized by the absence of a tough husk, which reduces fiber content and increases the concentration of protein, fats, and metabolizable energy compared to hulled varieties.

The absence of hulls, which account for up to 40% of the grain weight in common oats, ensures the high nutritional value of the crop. Naked oats have a higher content of crude protein, lysine, methionine, and fats, which increases the level of metabolizable energy. Significantly reduced fiber content makes the product easily digestible for young livestock and poultry, without requiring preliminary mechanical dehulling.
Use in the diets of broilers, laying hens, and calves improves feed conversion and growth rates of animals, allowing for the substitution of expensive protein components. A feature of the crop is the content of non-starch polysaccharides, such as beta-glucans, which can limit digestibility. The grain requires careful harvesting to maintain integrity, while the crop is less prone to the accumulation of mycotoxins.
