Variety description

10 August 2026

Marrone-type fruits are large, approximately 80 pieces per kilogram, and range in shape from obovate to oval-elliptical. The outer shell color varies from reddish-tawny to reddish-brown; the flesh is light cream in color with a sweet and delicate taste.

The harvest takes place from mid-September to mid-November. The Marrone variety matures later than Bastarda Rossa and Cecio. Plantings are located on soils of volcanic origin, with yields limited by regulation to 12 kg per tree or 1800 kg per hectare.

Plants are susceptible to ink disease caused by Phytophthora and are prone to infestation by the chestnut gall wasp. The fruits have historically been used in cooking for the preparation of confectionery, flour, and also consumed fresh.
