The variety is the result of centuries of folk breeding and selection in the Garfagnana geographical area. It is included in the regional registers of genetic resources of Tuscany subject to conservation and includes individual clonal lines, such as CMG 10E.
Plants of this type are characterized by an average height (about 15 meters) with a significant trunk diameter of up to 2 meters. The historical specialization of this variety lies in the use of fruits for processing into flour, while selection was not aimed at obtaining particularly large-sized fruits.
